Few Facts about Salt Wash Paint
- Instant texture results and easy layered look.
- We feel the best type of paint to use is a chalk style paint because of it’s thick body.
- Creates a durable surface.
- Saltwash dose not change the color of the paint you use.
Quick “How to” Reference:
- Mix Saltwash™ into any paint of choice, until the mixture has a consistency similar to cake icing.
- When applying, use a “glob” like technique and completely cover your surface.
- Once the Saltwash™ layer begins to dry and is tacky to the touch use the same brush to gently knock down some of the Saltwash™ peaks with a light side to side or back and forth motion. (*Do not completely smooth the Saltwash™ down. Texture is good and key to achieving the sun and salt air soaked look.)
- Once the Saltwash™ layer is completely dry, apply a top coat, using any paint of your choice.
- Once the top coat is dry, lightly sand down to reveal the Saltwash™ layers.
- Use differing paint colors for the Saltwash coat and final coat to give contrast and really show the layers of paint.
- Using a higher gloss or Satin finish for the final coat adds to an authentic look as if it was salvaged from an old beach cottage… back when oil and lead paints were used
- Try multiple layers of Salt wash paint to add more interest.
- A light coat of wax in a brown tone will add to an authentic vintage look.
This cabinet is finished with Saltwash and Dark glaze, it makes a really nice weathered look
